placement

It is finished!!

Yesterday was the last day of my first teaching placement. It was a strange day because it was school open day so there were parents wandering around all morning looking at what was going on in the classrooms etc.

The other teachers who had students like me let their students off teaching that morning but not mine. Oh no - she put me down to teach maths and music as usual on a Thursday morning. To be honest though, it was much like any Thursday morning. I just ignored the parents and carried on.

Got the kids on side by using Animal Biscuits to demonstrate pictograms in maths which, obviously, needed to be eaten at the end. Then we did rhythm in music like we'd been doing the previous 3 weeks but this time I let them have instruments if they could show me that they could clap their rhythm first. It was noisy and chaotic but it was fun and the high noise levels meant that parents didn't stick around for long. Only had one who said anything and that was "My child hasn't got an instrument" in a pointed "why not?" kind of way but I didn't stop to explain that it was because he couldn't clap his rhythm yet (probably because he was still trying to work out where his hands were!).

Weirdest moment of the day... that has to be the woman who came around wearing stripy pyjamas, a big pink dressing gown and slippers. Yes really. She seemed totally oblivious to the fact that she'd forgotten to get dressed that morning.

Its been good. I like teaching science and music, literacy is OK and I hate numeracy with a passion!! The kids were lovely, if a little noisy and fidgety but then they were only 6 or 7 years old.

But today, still being in bed at gone 9.00 is just lovely!
