thirst for life (and hunger for chocolate)

Thirst for Life - click for more info
I've just signed up for this. It's a campaign encouraging people to go alcohol-free for 40 days from March 1st this year (basically giving up alcohol for Lent). The idea is that it raises awareness of the levels of alcohol intake across the UK and the issues of binge drinking and alcohol abuse.

In actual fact, I don't drink all that much. The occasional glass of wine or beer here and there with some food and/or friends but not even once a week. So I think I'll probably find the 40 days relatively easy. There are one or two events during that time when I'll have to be mindful of it so I don't drink by mistake - weddings and the like but other than that life will be fairly normal.

So... I've upped the stakes. I'm going to give up chocolate for Lent too. Not because I'm on any sort of crusade to raise awareness of chocolate binges or anything like that. More because I don't actually think I can do it! I eat chocolate every day, several times a day. It's almost a reflex action for me. And I think I'm perhaps a little too dependent on it. So I'm going to try to go without it for 40 days and see what happens.

I've never given anything up for Lent before. If I get grumpy towards mid March/early April... actually, let's be honest, 2nd March .... you'll know why! Watch this space...

  1. a) I first thought your pic was someone poking their finger in a belly- button! Was a little confused...

    b) I gave up alcohol 2 years ago. There were a couple of balls that I went to (that included free drinks in the ticket :oS), but I found the hardest thing was sitting outside with friends without a bottle of beer. Was surprised!
