the need to belong.

I need your help in solving something which has been puzzling me for a while now. I asked Sarah and she doesn't know.

What food group is Marmite in?

  1. Its either beer or bread! Or at least thats what my twisted logic tells me!

  2. So alcohol or carbohydrates then?

It's not alcoholic (thankfully! I eat so much of it, I'd be permanently drunk!)

Maybe it's a carb. Doesn't feel like one though.

  3. maybe its like a mineral or a spice?

  4. Ok so as a biologist and a science teacher I have the definitive answer. Here are the nutritional percentages of marmite:
    Protein 43%, Carbohydrate 15%, Fat 0.5%, Fibre 2.5%, Sodium 4.5%, Thiamin 6%, Riboflavin 7%, Cack 21.5%

So according to this Marmite is mostly Protein with a strong hint of Cack (hence the nice tangy aftertaste). What is really worrying is why is it not manufactured under Rabbinical supervision.:)

  5. There is a food group that people pretend not to know about: midnight snacks.

Included in this groups are pizzas delivered by people who don't ring the bell and wake your wife, raw spaghetti and cheese on toast dipped in Dolmio. (And don't even pretend you've never done it!)

Marmite is the sovereign of this group.
